Business & Financial Services
Business Services includes budgeting, financial accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable/invoicing for all programs. We ensure compliance with federal and state requirements, education codes and NCSOS policies and procedures and maintain fiscal solvency.
Facilities & School Safety
Facilities & School Safety supports school districts in maintaining safe, modern, and compliant learning environments, including guidance on construction, facilities planning, maintenance, and compliance with state requirements. The department also coordinates school safety efforts such as emergency preparedness, Comprehensive School Safety Plans, safety trainings and drills, and collaboration with local law enforcement and first responders.
Information Technology Services
The IT department supports schools across Nevada County by providing reliable, secure, and innovative technology systems that enhance teaching, learning, and daily operations. Through a focus on digital equity, cybersecurity, and modern infrastructure, the team helps ensure all students and educators have access to the tools they need to succeed.

Academic Tournaments
Our Academic Tournaments give students in grades 4–8 the opportunity to build and showcase their skills in spelling, writing, and public speaking through engaging, competitive events.
Child Development Programs
Our Child Development Programs at Sierra College on the Nevada County Campus create a warm, high-quality learning environment for young children of students, staff, and community members.
CPR/AED and First Aid Training
NCSOS offers training for Adult CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and First Aid certificate and Pediatric & Infant CPR/AED and First Aid certificate for participants who are 12 years of age and older.
Curriculum, Instruction & Accountability Professional Learning
Our CIA team supports local education agencies (LEAs) through guidance, resources, and collaboration focused on improving student outcomes. Educators can request support from our Continuous Improvement team. Get info on ongoing learning opportunities and professional learning events.
Foster Youth Services
Nevada County Foster Youth Services provides students in out-of-home placements with the resources needed to achieve their maximum educational and vocational potential and well-being through a holistic, multidisciplinary and collaborative approach.
Homeless Children and Youth Services
Our Homeless Education Department which provides technical assistance and training to school districts and identified site liaisons to ensure that students experiencing homelessness have equal access to educational opportunities.
Indian Education
Nevada County Indian Education provides supports to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indian and Alaskan Natives, so that these students can achieve to the same challenging state standards as all students.
Intervention Services
RAYS is a student-led alternative to suspension program based in restorative practices. The TUPE program aims to reduce youth tobacco and cannabis use by helping students in grades 6-12 make healthful decisions.
PARTNERS Family Resources
The PARTNERS Family Resource team offer multiple services to families. Nevada County Superintendent of Schools has sponsored the FRCs since 2010. Located in Grass Valley, Penn Valley and San Juan Ridge.
Universal PreKindergarten
California has implemented a statewide initiative to provide a strong and early start to education for all children through equitable access to Universal PreKindergarten (UPK). NCSOS is working with school districts, preschools, and child care providers to ensure that quality early learning programs are available to all families.

The NCSOS Special Education Services teachers and support staff who serve the students with disabilities throughout these programs are highly trained and dedicated professionals, who are passionate about their work.
Special Education Services
NCSOS operates programs and provides services to students in Preschool – 12th grade. If a district student has needs that exceed the level of support provided by a district, a referral to the county may be made by the district. All services, however, must be agreed upon in the IEP prior to NCSOS beginning services.

SELPA
The Nevada County Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA) is committed to providing the leadership and support necessary to create and sustain high-quality educational programs for children with special needs. In achieving this goal, the SELPA works closely with school districts, educational staff, parents and families, and community agencies.
Child Find
Public schools are obligated to actively search for, identify, locate, and evaluate children with disabilities from birth through 18. Information that could potentially initiate Child Find may be provided to schools by education staff, parents, families, health professionals, day care staff, social service agencies, law enforcement, legal supports, etc.
