Thank you for your interest in joining the Nevada County Substitute Consortium. We appreciate your desire to become a part of a highly valued pool of substitute teachers who serve students countywide. Our team works hard to find qualified educators that are essential to the support success in development and academics for students throughout all grade levels.
Apply here if you have a valid and current California Teaching Credential or
30-Day Emergency Substitute Teaching permit.

The Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit authorizes the holder to serve as a Day-to-Day Substitute Teacher in any classroom, including preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-12 inclusive, or in classes organized primarily for adults. The holder may serve as a substitute for no more than 30 days for any one teacher during the school year, except in a special education classroom, where the holder may serve for no more than 20 days for any one teacher during the school year. This permit is valid for one year and is renewable. Click here to read more about an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit
Substitute Teaching Permit
For those interested in obtaining a substitute permit for the purpose of being part of the Nevada County substitute teaching consortium (if only wanting to sub for a specific district or charter school, please contact the district/charter school office directly), our office can submit an online recommendation through the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). This process will expedite the issuance of a substitute permit and takes the place of a CTC paper application. The minimum requirements are as follows:
- Official transcripts showing the conferral of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- CTC Fingerprinting:
- there is a fee associated with this process
- non-refundable paid directly to the live scan agency
- we are not responsible if you pay for fingerprints but do not qualify for a sub permit
- if you have a record or charge that comes up as part of the fingerprint process, there will be a delay
- there is a fee associated with this process
If you meet the above qualifications, check back with us in September of 2023. Instructions and forms will be posted then.
If you would like to apply for a substitute teaching permit directly to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, refer to the following links and submit your paper application to their agency:
