Career and Technical Education in Charter Schools
For the first time in Nevada County, in person Career and Technical Education is being offered to Charter High School students. This new Business and Entrepreneurship Class is possible from a unique collaboration between the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, Forest and Bitney Prep Charter Schools, Sierra College and matching funds from the Community College Chancelors Office Strong Workforce Grant.
The classes are focused on providing students with the skills and understanding of how to develop a business plan, evaluate the viability of a business idea and a basic understanding of what’s required to open and operate a small business. With dual enrollment, students are simultaneously enrolled in Sierra College and from the comfort of their high school classroom, earning college credits for participation in the class. Students have the option to take two semesters of this course (Business 241 & 242) and earn a total of six Sierra College credits. During the second semester students will have the option of participating in an internship to further solidify their classroom experience.
